Memento opening analysis

The opening scene to the film - 'Memento' is seen to be very simple, but also gives us an intriguing insight to what the film may be about. It promotes a sense of enigma for the audience.
The titles are printed in a a light blue, serif font. The colour of the text connotes sadness which links in with the slow paced and music. This gives the audience a sense of sadness also. As the diegetic sound of the music increases in intensity as the opening goes on, it gives the audience a sense of expectation and builds tension. The sting instruments give the clip a sense of depression which links in with the disturbing violent imagery in the background.

Most of the clip is a close up of the hand holding the photograph. This allows the viewers to see detail. We see that that there is a dead man laying on the floor, surrounded by blood, this already givers us an indication and insight to why the man was killed, we are instantly intrigued. Them emphasis of the pictures makes the audience feel that it is significant to the rest of the film.
