The victim who begins the Opening scene with her disturbing flashbacks she is the main character in the movie. She is a vulnerable character with very a very quiet nature. She is blonde which indicates her lack of intelligence and innocent personality but ironically shows that she is a protagonist in danger.

Detective Alex Smith:
This is the detective in the movie. He is a strong enforcer of the law who has been a detective for over 20 years. Although he is a detective, in the movie he doesn't always commit to the rules of being a detective, in the sense that he takes matters into his own hands and 'does what has to be done' in order to catch the villain. This in a sense is typical of a crime thriller as sometimes a detective or an 'FBI agent' sometimes seems to break the codes of their job.

Very little is given away about this very mysterious character. All we know is that he seeks Olivia (the victim) and has committed many crimes. He is very clever and does things in a artistic way. He is seen as an unusual person who tends to be disturbed, and goes about what he does based on previous disturbing experiences.
